You Deserve to Feel Happy
by Sueños on 03/31/17
In a session the other day my client brought up the fact that she was up for a pretty sizable promotion. I congratulated her; however, I couldn't help but notice how nervous she was. When I asked her what was wrong, she told me she felt like she didn't deserve the promotion. "Wait a minute," I said, "you're telling me, although this is exactly what we've been working for, you don't feel like you deserve it." She confirmed that's exactly how she felt. I knew for a fact that she deserved it. It wasn't a case of favoritism or anything dubious. She had put in extra time, excelled in her current position, and is all around an uplifting person. So, I told her, "You deserve the position, and you deserve to feel happy."
I know too many people who have good things happen to them and say, "I don't deserve this." Here's the funny thing about that, you do though. It's important to realize that we do have control of our actions, and that they have consequences, good or bad. Do not undersell yourself, especially when it's something you've been working for. At any moment you deserve to feel happy, and you have the power to create that.
