As I watched the sun lick the crimson and canary yellow cliffs surrounding the green river, I felt as though serendipity had taken the wheel of this whole trip, even before it began. It was something about the grit of the red rock, and the way the radio seemed to know exactly what songs harmonized best with the echoes of car engines on sandstone cliffs. Perhaps it was the two girls we met hiking, who showed up right as we found ourselves lost right as the sun was setting. Maybe it was the rad people who invited us to their campfire when we ran out of firewood, and told us stories of their perpetual journeys to the best sights and sounds the world had to offer. Or maybe, just maybe, it was that all of our friends canceled last minute, so that it left just two young men hiking through some of the most awe inspiring creations howling winds and raging rapids had created.
Whatever it was, something about the whole week felt as though everything was exactly as it was meant to be. It's sublime moments like this where I'm reminded of a quote by Laozi, "Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished." So, I found myself, after a week of hiking, wandering, and laughing, that everything had been accomplished.
